Custom Cardboard Cupcake Boxes

A good cupcake box does one job above all: it keeps the frosting off the lid. Ours are die-cut paperboard cartons with fitted inserts that hold each cupcake in place, whether you’re sending out one or a full dozen, so nothing slides around and nothing gets smeared on the way to your customer.

They’re built for the people actually moving cupcakes day to day — home bakers, cottage-food sellers, and small cake shops that need product to survive the trip from the kitchen to a customer’s hands. Each box folds flat until you need it and closes with either a tuck-top or an auto-lock base. A quick rule of thumb on style: go with a window box when your customer buys with their eyes at a counter, and solid kraft when you’re shipping any real distance.

Key Features & Benefits

The insert is what makes these boxes worth buying. It gives each cupcake its own well, so the frosting never brushes the box wall and the swirl holds its shape even over a rough delivery. The board itself — kraft or SBS at 250–350 GSM — takes the weight when boxes get stacked three high in a delivery bag without caving on the ones underneath. Add a die-cut window and your customer sees the cupcake without lifting the lid, with your logo printing sharp across every panel.

Fitted Insert

Fitted insert keeps cupcakes from shifting in transit.

Grease-Resistant Board

Grease-resistant board stands up to buttercream and oil.

Stack Strength

Holds its shape under a three-box stack.

Tuck-Top Closure

Tuck-top closure shows whether a box has been opened.

Flat-Pack Storage

Flat panels stack neatly on delivery shelves.

Full-Bleed CMYK Printing

Full-bleed CMYK keeps your logo crisp.

Clear Display Window

A clear window sells the cupcake before anyone opens it.

Rigid Kraft Construction

Why Choose Orbix Packaging?

We’ve been printing and shipping bakery cartons long enough to know exactly where the cheap ones let bakers down: board too thin to hold weight, inserts that don’t actually grip, logos that print off-register. So we proof the pre-press and make a physical sample on every order before anything runs. Our minimum sits at 100 units, which means small bakers aren’t forced to buy a pallet they can’t use, and our wholesale pricing drops as your volume climbs.

Between the food-grade board, the quality checks, and a design team that’ll clean up your artwork, most customers come back.

Frequently Asked Questions

What size box do I need for 12, 24, or 48 cupcakes?

A standard 12-count box holds one dozen. For 24 or 48, you're better off with several 12-count boxes or a stackable insert tray — one oversized box tends to crush the bottom rows.

Are cardboard cupcake boxes food safe?

Yes. The paperboard is food-grade and rated for direct contact with baked goods. Both the grease-resistant kraft and the SBS meet FDA food-contact standards for dry baked goods.

How do I keep cupcakes fresh in transit?

Seat each one in a fitted insert so it can't slide, keep the box level, and keep it out of the heat. A closed cardboard box also cuts down the airflow that dries sponge out.

How do I stop the frosting from smudging inside?

Two things: pick a box tall enough to clear the top of the frosting, and lock each cupcake into its own insert well. If the cupcake can't move, the swirl can't reach the wall.

Do these come with inserts or dividers?

They can. Fitted paperboard inserts and corner dividers are standard options, and both keep each cupcake in its own well so they don't touch or slide.

What are they made from?

Food-grade kraft, white SBS paperboard, or E-flute corrugated, usually in the 250–350 GSM range. Which weight you want comes down to how many cupcakes you're holding and how far they're traveling.

Window box or solid box?

Window boxes work best on a retail counter where people buy by sight. Solid boxes are the better call for shipping or hot weather, since they keep out light, dust, and a bit of heat.

How do I ship cupcakes safely?

Lock them into the inserts, then set the printed box inside a slightly larger corrugated mailer with some padding. That gap absorbs the knocks so the box people actually see shows up clean.

Are they recyclable?

Plain kraft and SBS boxes are, and they'll compost too. Heavy lamination or foil can get in the way of recycling, so if end-of-life matters to your customers, stick with uncoated board.

How far ahead should I order?

Give yourself 2–3 weeks for custom-printed boxes — that's 3–5 days for the sample plus 8–12 business days of production. Plain stock boxes turn around faster.
